Fundamental principles of microbiome dynamics
Duration of contract: 3 years
Planned starting date: July 2024 - October 2024
Place of work: University of Vienna
Main supervisor: Christina Kaiser (CV | Lab Homepage)
Supervision team: Holger Daims, Andreas Richter
Project description:
Mathematical modelling, synthesis and theory building is an integral part of the ‘fundamental principles of microbiome dynamics’ project, encompassing the three work packages 7.1 (growth), 7.2 (interactions) and 7.3 (perturbations). We are looking for an excellent theoretical ecologist and/or mathematical modeler to extract fundamental principles of microbiomes across different host and environmental systems based on the experimental data obtained in this project. The successful candidate shall work closely together with the experimental team to achieve the following aims:
WP 7.1: unifying existing growth theories and embedding fundamental principles of growth into ecological theory.
WP 7.2: metabolic modeling and microbial interaction network reconstruction and analysis
WP 7.3: developing a conceptual model of community adaptation to perturbations using temporal ecology and complex systems science.
We are looking for an independent researcher with good communication skills, who is enthusiastic about advancing theoretical concepts in microbial community ecology and likes working in an interdisciplinary team.
