How to apply to a CoE position

 

 

1. Create a u:account

A u:account (University of Vienna account) is necessary to use the recruitment portal, which is an IT service provided by the University of Vienna. We do not accept email applications. Additionally, accounts on the microplanet.at website are for internal use only. They are not connected to u:accounts.  
U:account creation requires an existing email address as well as your name and date of birth. With your u:account username and password, you can login to the recruitment portal through the link provided on every open position page.

2. Prepare your documents

The documents required for application are shown in the recruitment portal. Please prepare them in a single PDF file.

PhD positions:

  • CV incl. publication list and conference attendances
  • Letter of motivation, specific to the desired project(s) - Example structure (max. 100 words each): Scientific Background, Training and Expertise, Research Interests, Motivation for applying to the specified WP/MF
  • Confirmation of English language skills (if available, otherwise English will be assessed in the context of the interview)
  • Master’s (or equivalent) and Bachelor’s diploma and transcript of records (applicants who apply before their graduation, please let us know your projected date of graduation in the comment field in the recruitment portal).
  • Contact information of 2 references 

Postdoc positions:

  • CV incl. publication list and conference attendances
  • Letter of motivation, specific to the desired project(s) - Example structure (max. 100 words each): Scientific Background, Training and Expertise, Research Interests, Motivation for applying to the specified WP/MF
  • Confirmation of English language skills (if available, otherwise English will be assessed in the context of the interview)
  • PhD diploma and transcript of records (applicants who apply before their graduation, please let us know your projected date of graduation in the comment field in the recruitment portal).
  • Contact information of 3 references 

Technician positions:

  • CV 
  • Letter of motivation in English, specific to the desired project(s)
  • (optional) employment references, testimonials, certificates

 

3. Log into the recruitment portal and fill the recruitment form

Go to any open position subpage or use the button below to access the recruitment portal with your u:account login.

First, select the type of application you wish to make (PhD, Postdoc or technician).

Select the position(s) you are interested in - click the magnifying glass icon to see the entire list - and rank them by preference (optional). If you do not have a preference, you can also select the option "Any PhD/Postdoc/Technician position" from the dropdown list.

Submit your documents by dragging and dropping or uploading the PDF from your computer.

Select any number of skills and fields of research you already have experience with. 

Let us know where you found our recruitment call.

Optionally, leave a comment for the recruiting team, such as the projected date of completion of your ongoing master's or PhD degree.

Fill the statistics data and submit your application.

 

FAQ

 

The portal appears in a foreign language, what can I do?

The recruitment portal is available in German and English. To switch languages, close the recruitment popup window in the middle of the screen and then navigate to the top right corner where you can see a button to switch languages ("Sprache: DE" or "Language: EN"). Then, simply click on the "Apply@CoE" symbol in the middle of the screen again to open the window once more.

I can't see the position I want to apply for in the recruitment portal's position dropdown list.

The dropdown list shows the first 25 positions in each category. To see the entire list, please click on the magnifying glass icon beside the position field or start typing a position name (e.g. "WP 7.1") in order to see it in the dropdown list.  

There is a technical problem when creating a u:account, what can I do?

U:accounts are managed by the ZID (Vienna University Computer Center). For assistance with technical problems, please contact: helpdesk.zid@univie.ac.at

Can I apply even though my degree is still in progress?

Yes, we would be happy to receive your application. Please let us know your projected date of graduation in the comment field of the recruitment portal.

Can I apply from outside Austria?

Yes, we welcome all international applications.

Why is my account creation request not being approved?

You tried to create an account for our information website microplanet.at, instead of a u:account which is needed to apply to our open position. Please follow the how-to at the top of this page for u:account creation.
