Microbial Interaction Mechanisms and Networks in Complex Microbiomes
Duration of contract: 3 years
Planned starting date: ASAP
Place of work: University of Vienna
Main supervisor: Holger Daims (CV | Lab Homepage)
Supervision team: Michael Wagner, Christina Kaiser
This position has been filled.
Project description:
The Postdoc will investigate microbial interactions in wastewater treatment plants as model systems for environmental/engineered microbiomes, using a combination of computational predictions and modelling and in-situ experimental manipulations on microbiome microcosms and co-cultures.
In detail, metagenomic and amplicon data will be used for in-silico metabolic modelling, functional trait prediction, and interaction network reconstruction. These data will be complemented by wet-lab experiments with microbiomes and co-cultures using advanced fluorescence imaging, stable isotope labeling, and chemical imaging techniques, as well as metatranscriptomics to observe microbial interactions under different conditions.
The Postdoc will also interact with team members who focus on computational analyses, study interactions in the human microbiome, and investigate microbiome responses to perturbations. The ideal candidate is fascinated by microbial physiology and microbial interactions. A strong interest in cutting-edge molecular and imaging approaches is required. An interest in and experience with bioinformatics analyses is ideal.
