Project description:

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a background in microbiology and/or bioinformatics. The PhD project will be focused on estimation of growth parameters from genomic and metagenomic data and their experimental verification using advanced microfluidic technologies that allow precise measurement of single cell mass and growth. The main training will be in the Polz lab in close collaboration with the Berry, Kitzinger and Richter labs who address fundamental questions of growth in different environments including the human gut, soil and aquatic habitats.
