Giant viruses as predators of heterotrophic protists
Duration of contract: 2-3 years
Planned starting date: End of 2024/Beginning of 2025
Place of work: University of Vienna
Main supervisor: Matthias Horn (CV | Lab Homepage)
Supervision team: Martin Polz, Anouk Willemsen (external)
Project description:
Together with other members of the work package team, this postdoc position will be involved in sequencing-based approaches to recover and characterize novel giant viruses, and to study virus-protist population dynamics. The ideal candidate has a strong background in (genome-centered) bioinformatics and metagenomics and is fascinated by both (i) the ecology and evolution of viruses, and (ii) the enormous diversity of microbial eukaryotes. The willingness to employ and adapt novel, cutting-edge molecular and computational approaches is a plus.
