Supervision team: Martin Polz, Anouk Willemsen (external)
This position has been filled.
Project description:
Together with other members of the work package team, this PhD position will be involved in both isolation- and sequencing-based approaches to recover and characterize novel giant viruses, and to study virus-protist population dynamics. The ideal candidate is fascinated by both (i) the ecology and evolution of viruses and (ii) the enormous diversity of microbial eukaryotes. A solid background in either of theses fields is beneficial. The willingness to employ and adapt novel, cutting-edge molecular approaches such as single cell sequencing methods is a plus. An interest in and experience with bioinformatics analyses is ideal.
